AROUND KAKANUI
Located just 10 minutes south of Oamaru, Kakanui Camping Ground is amid a hub of activity for the adventurous - or a fantastic place to stop, breathe & take a moment for YOU. There is amazing paua to be found around the rock pools when the tide is out (or you can go diving); Campbells Bay is a brilliant place to (learn to) surf or swim; there are numerous hunting spots & don't get us started on the whitebait in the river (just 10m out the back gate).
The kids will love riding their bikes around; making new friends; the school playgrounds are wicked & they will never get enough of the beach. We even get the occasional seal at the back gate!
AROUND OAMARU
Do I need to mention Oamaru is the Steampunk capital of the WORLD?!
There is a Steampunk playground by the harbour; a penguin colony to visit; Victorian Precinct with shops, museums, theatre, galleries & food; the start (or end) of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle trail & so much more.
Not to mention boat races, rugby tournaments, jazz festivals, & the steampunk festival - a never ending supply of entertainment only 10 minutes away.
